Royal Navy Intercepts 201 Would-Be Migrants Attempting to Reach Canary Islands

Morocco’s Royal Navy intercepted on Saturday, some 185 km southwest of Dakhla, a pirogue carrying 201 would-be irregular migrants attempting to reach the Canary Islands.

The rescued individuals, who included women and minors, were brought back safe and sound to the fishing village of Roc-Chico (190 km southwest of Dakhla), according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

After receiving the necessary medical care on board, they were then handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie to complete the standard administrative procedures, the statement said.
