“Morocco has committed, in line with the royal instructions issued to the ministries of the Interior and of Foreign Affairs, to identifying unaccompanied minors to facilitate their return to their homeland,” a Moroccan diplomatic source said.
In this regard, Morocco is ready to collaborate with its Spanish and European partners to repatriate unaccompanied minors, the source stated, lamenting that “each time the immigration debate resurfaces, some voices accuse Morocco of not cooperating, or of being against the return of these unaccompanied minors, just as this case in Spain.”
“Certain political actors weaponize this issue for electoral ends, whereas the reality is much different, having nothing to do with such insinuations,” the source pointed out.
These insinuations are “fallacious and baseless”. “Morocco has always honored its commitments. The problem always lies in the administrative and legal hurdles that thwart any repatriation,” the source insisted, making it clear that Morocco “can in no case accept this alibi as a political lever to state that it refuses to cooperate or is uninterested in this issue.”
“If the partners want to work to foster their return, they should look inwards to transcend the obstacles posed by their legislation and their administrative and legal powers with regard to this operation,” the diplomatic source underlined.
