Libya’s Ministry of Defense under the Government of National Unity has confirmed the return of 21 Libyan citizens who had been detained in Niger, following coordinated diplomatic and security cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement issued on Monday and relayed by the Libyan news agency, the individuals were formally transferred to Libyan territory and subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities for completion of legal and administrative procedures in line with applicable regulations.
The ministry said the operation reflects ongoing bilateral coordination and broader regional engagement mechanisms aimed at safeguarding citizens and strengthening cross-border cooperation.
Libyan authorities expressed appreciation to Nigerien officials for their collaboration, describing it as instrumental in facilitating the successful repatriation process. The Ministry of Defense reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships with regional counterparts in pursuit of citizen protection and enhanced diplomatic coordination.
