The Government of Morocco has called for the prompt implementation and full respect of the U.S.-Iran agreement reached to end the war in the Middle East.
A statement issued Monday by the Moroccan ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of the deal in consolidating the ceasefire and ensuring the sustainable freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
“Morocco hopes the agreement will contribute, in accordance with international law, to resolving other outstanding issues,” underlined statement.
News of the deal was still enough of a relief that oil prices tumbled. President Donald Trump said the deal would bring peace to the region and restart safe passage of oil tankers through the strait as soon as Friday.
Trump on Sunday said he had ordered the immediate removal of a US naval blockade of Iranian ports and added that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened when the initial agreement is signed.
Pakistan, which has been mediating talks between Washington and Tehran, said a ceremonial signing of the agreement would take place in Geneva on Friday. After that, a 60-day period of negotiations toward a comprehensive peace agreement would begin. The talks are likely to be complex.
