Morocco Wins UN Economic & Social Council Seat; an International Recognition of Kingdom’s Engagement

Morocco has been elected to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2027–2029 term during the election held by the UN body in New York.

The election of Morocco to the Council with 178 votes out of 187 is an international recognition of the role played by the Kingdom in the economic and social development on the regional and global scene.

The massive votes for the Moroccan bid shows the status of the country in global affairs as well as the respect and support its enjoys due to the Kingdom’s commitment to multilateral action, sustainable development, and international cooperation.

ECOSOC is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations. It serves as the central platform for debate, policy review, and recommendations on economic, social, and environmental issues, as well as the implementation of internationally agreed sustainable development goals.

It is the principal body for coordinating efforts to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda. The UN Economic and Social Council also conducts research, formulates global resolutions, and promotes debates on international economic and social challenges.
