The Moroccan Embassy in Washington, as part of an initiative aimed at promoting Moroccan art, has published a book dedicated to the artworks belonging to the Moroccan diplomatic mission and unveiled an exhibition titled “Moroccan Art: Threads of the Past, Visions of Today.”
A genuine showcase of Moroccan creativity, the book highlights the richness, diversity, and boldness of an artistic scene that uniquely blends deep-rooted heritage with the demands of modernity.
To mark the occasion, an exhibition of these works of art was held on Tuesday evening at the embassy in Washington. The exhibition was attended by figures from the cultural and artistic worlds, diplomats, representatives of international institutions, members of the Francophone community, and civil society leaders.
Bringing together leading figures of Moroccan artistic modernity such as Chaïbia Talal, Hassan El Glaoui, Farid Belkahia, Mohamed Melehi, Karim Bennani, Miloud Labied, and Malika Agueznay, this carefully curated selection, characterized by significant stylistic and technical diversity, offers a compelling overview of the dynamism of Moroccan art, at the crossroads of cultural legacies, between memory and innovation.
The exhibition also features works by Noureddine Daifallah, Khalid El Bekay, Noureddine Chater, Aziz Kibari, Ahmed Ben Ismael, Hamid Lagder, Mohamed Cherkaoui Sellami, Touria Licer, Zouhair Chihad, Iman Masrour, Rachid Fassih, Ibrahim Hamami, and Noureddine Tabete.
Speaking at the event, which coincides with the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Moroccan-American relations, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, highlighted the fundamental role of cultural diplomacy in bringing nations closer together, and noted that art represents “a universal language capable of transcending borders, evoking shared emotions, and fostering authentic dialogue between cultures.”
In this regard, he highlighted “the unique ability of the Moroccan art scene to harmonize tradition and modernity, a faithful reflection of the Kingdom’s cultural diversity and rich heritage.”
Through this dual initiative, the Moroccan Embassy in Washington reaffirmed the central role of art in cultural diplomacy, underscoring the Kingdom’s steadfast commitment to sharing its artistic heritage with the world and to promoting contemporary creativity as a dynamic lever of international cooperation.
