SURINAME REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR MOROCCAN SAHARA; COMMENDS ROYAL ATLANTIC INITIATIVE

The Republic of Suriname has reaffirmed steadfast support for Morocco’s full sovereignty over its entire Saharan territory and welcomed UN Security Council resolution 2797 which endorsed the Moroccan Autonomy plan under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
The supportive stand was expressed by the top diplomat of this South American country Melvin Bouva during his meeting held Thursday in Rabat with Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita.
The “serious and credible” Moroccan autonomy plan, backed by the international community, is the only solution to the Sahara regional dispute, said Mr. Melvin Bouva.
He also praised the Royal initiatives launched for the African Atlantic and Sahel countries to enhance regional integration and speed up socioeconomic development for shared growth, peace and stability.
Suriname has opened an embassy in Rabat and a consulate general in Dakhla in 2022, showing its recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
In a joint statement, the minister of Suriname hailed the Royal South-South cooperation vision which contributes to advancing sustainable development in the Caribbean region through concrete socio-economic projects.
Morocco and Suriname have voiced on this occasion shared commitment to strengthen further bilateral cooperation in various sectors of common interest.
The two countries ministers signed a new cooperation roadmap for the period 2026–2028 and agreed to foster cooperation in diplomatic training and renewable energy.
