Sudanese Army Advances in South Kordofan After Intense Clashes

The Sudanese Army has captured several strategic areas west of Abbasiya Tagali in South Kordofan following heavy confrontations with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).
Witnesses reported that troops advanced into Tabsa, Al-Damra, Gardoud Jama, and Al-Mureib on Sunday, November 30, a development seen as critical in curbing further attacks on Abbasiya Tagali. A local civil society group, the Nuba Mountains Community Platform, confirmed the army’s control of these locations, while videos shared by military personnel showed soldiers celebrating with residents in the newly seized towns.
The offensive comes amid weeks of escalating violence across the three Kordofan states, where ongoing clashes have forced tens of thousands to flee. The wider conflict, which erupted in April 2023 between the army and the RSF, has left at least 40,000 people dead and displaced 12 million, according to the World Health Organization. As territorial control remains sharply divided—with the RSF dominating much of Darfur and the army holding most parts of the remaining states—the human toll continues to mount, deepening Sudan’s protracted humanitarian crisis.
