Morocco & UK discuss British support to strategic Moroccan projects

Morocco’s key infrastructure and development projects were at the centre of talks held lately in Rabat between Minister of Economy & Finance, Mrs. Nadia Fettah and a delegation from UK Export Finance agency.

Discussions focused on ways of strengthening financial cooperation between the two countries and UKEF’s financing support for strategic Moroccan projects in energy, infrastructure, and trade within the frame of public-private partnerships.

The meeting builds on continued momentum in UK-Morocco economic partnerships and seeks to unlock new investments amid global trade shifts.

Foreign investors are attracted by Morocco’s political stability, strategic position, modern infrastructures (ports, airports, highways, competitive ecosystems, incentives…) and FTAs sealed with USA, EU, Arab and Africa countries.

During the latest session of the UK-Morocco Strategic Dialogue held in Rabat, a high-level UK delegation—including representatives from the UK’s export credit agency—engaged in discussions with Moroccan officials.

UKEF has pledged up to £5 billion in financing for Moroccan projects, explicitly open to those in Sahara. This expands on a prior £4 billion limit and aims to support UK exports by requiring at least 20% of contract value to be UK-sourced. Focus areas include infrastructure, renewables, and low-carbon energy transitions.

Morocco-UK bilateral trade reached £4.2 billion in 2024, doubling since the entry into force of the UK-Morocco Association Agreement in 2021. Building on this positive momentum, the two countries expect further trade growth and more jobs with the 2030 FIFA World Cup Morocco is co-hosting with Spain and Portugal.

Rabat welcomes the UK’s technical support and efforts to promote associated commercial opportunities for UK businesses across the value chain. Morocco and UK have pledged to collaborate on priority infrastructure projects ahead of the global football tournament.
