Morocco gears up to launch 5G network

Morocco is planning to launch 5G bandwidth ahead of the African Cup of Nations due in December next year, minister in charge of digital transition Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni said.

This technology will benefit at a first stage 25% of the population by 2026 and 70% by 2030, Seghrouchni said.

The six cities that will host the 2030 World Cup matches will be fully covered by the 5G network, she said.

Compared to 4G, 5G can provide download speeds up to 100 times faster, while reducing latency to as low as 1 millisecond.

Morocco has one of the highest internet penetration rates in Africa at 90.7%.
