Morocco urges preservation of Syria’s unity and territorial integrity
Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita reiterated the Kingdom’s steady position for the preservation of Syria’s national unity and territorial integrity after the fall of Bashar Assad’s regime.
Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, “has always been clear concerning the preservation of territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and the unity of the Syrian people. This has been and will remain the firm position of the Kingdom of Morocco,” Bourita said at a joint press conference with visiting former Prime Minister of Kenya and candidate for the position of President of the African Union Commission, Raila Amolo Odinga.
“Morocco hopes that these developments will bring stability to Syria and a better future for the Syrian people,” he said.
Morocco closed its embassy in Damascus and requested the closure of the Syrian embassy in Rabat in 2012, in line with the Moroccan position, the minister recalled.
“Morocco was against interference in Syria’s internal affairs, just as it is today supporting stability, unity, and the aspirations of the Syrian people to progress,” he said.
