Defense: Morocco and Mauritania to enhance military cooperation in border security for regional stability
Morocco and Mauritania have stressed the need to strengthen further cooperation between their armies to tighten border security, counter illegal migration, and cross-border criminal activities threatening regional stability.
These are among top priorities of the cooperation program discussed Tuesday in Rabat by the Moroccan-Mauritanian Joint Military Commission convened under the co-chairmanship of Lt. General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces & Commander of the South Zone, and Maj. General El Mokhtar Bolle Chaabane, Chief of Staff of Mauritania’s Armed Forces.
During this meeting, the two parties reviewed the joint activities carried out in 2024 and discussed the cooperation roadmap for next year. They hailed positive results achieved in security, defense, training and the exchange of experience and expertise.
The Mauritanian army chief was received the same day by Minister in charge of National Defence Administration Abdellatif Loudiyi. They lauded the excellent friendship bonds and strong cooperation ties existing between the two countries building a resilient partnership model based on shared history and common geostrategic interests.
Afterwards, Gen. El Mokhtar Bolle Chaabane and Lt. General Mohammed Berrid visited a vocational training complex in Tamesna, located in the suburbs of Rabat. Built over a 10-hectare site, the complex, dubbed the City of Trades & Skills, offers a high quality of training in various sectors including industrial engineering, QHSE, electricity, mechanics and automotive.
