UN-Sahara: Vienna Reaffirms Support to Morocco’s “Serious and Credible” Autonomy Plan

Foreign Minister of Austria Alexander Schallenberg has reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support to the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007, describing the plan as a “very serious and credible” contribution to the UN-led process engaged for reaching a lasting solution to the Sahara regional issue.
Mr. Schallenberg renewed Vienna’s backing during a meeting held in New York with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The two ministers also discussed cooperation ties between the two countries in several sectors of mutual interests as well as latest developments on the regional and international scene.
On the occasion of the UN General Assembly, the top diplomats of several countries met with Mr.Bourita and expressed their countries strong support to the autonomy plan offered by the Kingdom for the Sahara under its sovereignty, saying it is the ONLY realistic solution to the Sahara regional conflict.
The supportive stands were voiced by the foreign ministers of Denmark, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, São Tomé & Príncipe, Sudan, Saint Kitts & Nevis and the Commonwealth of Dominica.
