Thai army rescues 12 Moroccans held by ‘call-center gangs’ in Myanmar
The army of Thailand managed to rescue 12 Moroccans who were trapped by gangs that lured them into well-paid jobs in Myanmar casinos before holding them hostage for months.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Moroccan embassy in Thailand, Thai media The Nation reported.
The liberated Moroccans are part of a larger group including other nationalities who have been duped by what came to be called call-center gangs in Myanmar.
Thai authorities are still negotiating the release of other Moroccans who have been scammed into casino jobs.
