Morocco expects to produce 1 million cars by 2025

Industry minister Ryad Mezzour expects the production capacity of Morocco’s automotive sector to increase to 1.5 million cars by 2026.

“We will hit the 1 million car milestone next year as Stellatis doubles its production capacity,” Mezzour told Medias24 in an interview.

By 2026, Morocco would be able to double its current production capacity to 1.5 million cars, he said.

Morocco is home to Renault factories in Tangier and Kenitra and Stellantis plants in Kenitra. It also has a vast network of local suppliers that enabled increasing the locally made parts in the cars it exports.

The country is also preparing its automotive clusters to the transition to electric vehicles. A first step has been taken with the setting up of an industrial zone in Casablanca dedicated to EV battery making.

The first investment in a cathode plant, key EV battery ingredient, is already underway by China’s BTR New Material Group in Tangier.

The plant would cost 300 million dollars and produce 50,000 tons of cathode annually.
