Jeddah: Morocco’s Prince Moulay Rachid represents King Mohammed VI in Arab Summit
Morocco’s Prince Moulay Rachid is representing King Mohammed VI in the Arab Summit which opened this Friday in Jeddah, marking the return of Syria to the Arab League after a 12-year suspension following a bloody crackdown on pro-democracy protesters against President Bachar Al-Assad.
Upon his arrival Friday at King Abdelaziz International Airport, Prince Moulay Rachid was greeted by Prince Bandar Ben Soltane, Deputy Governor of Mecca region, and Moroccan Foreign minister Nasser Bourita.
Bourita took part in the preparatory meetings for the summit and met with several Arab foreign ministers to coordinate stands on issues of common concern.
The Jeddah summit comes as the region is reeling under diverging interests and multiple conflicts, including Sudan crisis and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It is also taking place in new geostrategic changes after Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic ties in a deal brokered by China.
