Zamalek Sporting Club’s boss Mortada Mansour removed from board

The Egyptian administrative judiciary has ruled for Mortada Mansour to be removed as chairman of the country’s second most popular football club Zamalek, the ministry of Youth and Sports has indicated.

Mohamed el-Shazly, spokesman for the ministry said that the court has ruled for the move and is expected to inform officially the ministry this Tuesday, Egypt Independent reports.

“The general assembly of Zamalek Sporting Club will be informed of the decision and Mansour will be removed,” el-Shazly added.

Shazly noted that Mansour can appeal against the ruling that revoked his membership and removed him from his position as president of the club.

Mansour has been condemned to one month in prison and a one-year suspension after he was found guilty of defamation against his Al-Ahly counterpart Mahmoud El-Khateeb.

Mansour, hot tempered and very critical of public figures, is also embroiled in another controversy with Mark Clattenburg, the British head of referees at the EFA.

Clattenberg, 47, had fled Egypt, sending his resignation letter to the association from home after receiving threats from Zamalek fans.

Mansour had reportedly accused Clattenberg of being in a gay relationship after leaving his wife, charges Mansour denied a few days later in an interview with a local news outlet.
