Football: Morocco-Brazil (2-1) victory in a friendly, 1st Arab win over Selecao
The Atlas Lions, the semi-finalist in Qatar’s World Cup 2022, continue to rewrite football history. On Saturday, Morocco defeated Brazil 2-1 in a friendly match played in Tangiers, becoming the first ever Arab team to defeat the five-time world champions.
The Midfielder Sofiane Boufal opened the score in the 29th minute with spinning move in the box, before Manchester United’s Casemiro scored the equalizer in the 67th minute for the Selecao on a mistake by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.
In the second half, substitute Abdelhamid Sabiri scored the winner in the 79th minute, proving to the world that the historic performance made by the Atlas Lions in Qatar’s World cup finals was not fortuitous.
In Qatar, the Selecao were knocked out in the quarter-finals on penalties by Croatia, while Morocco’s Atlas Lions became the first Arab and African team to reach the semi-finals in FIFA world cup history.
With new interim head Ramon Menezes, Brazil are rebuilding after latest world cup failure, while Morocco continue to shine, gaining more and more worldwide praise for defensive and offensive play-style.
The Atlas Lions will play another friendly against Peru on March 28 in Madrid to perfect their style and game.
