Kenya’s opposition leader unveils youth resistance movement to remove incumbent leader

Raila Odinga, leader of the opposition in Kenya and head of Azimio coalition, has unveiled youth resistance movement dubbed “movement for defense of democracy” that he intends to use to push President William Ruto out the state office, Nation Africa reported Sunday.

Speaking during a rally in Kamukunji grounds in Kibra as part of public consultative meetings, Odinga argued that Ruto did not win the August 9 presidential election but got to the office by hijacking and subverting the will of the people.

The leader of Orange Democratic Movement slammed Ruto for governing in absolute contempt for the people and the country’s institutions.

The President, he argued, failed on its promise to name a poor man’s government but instead unveiled a government of billionaires that has no room for the poor.

Instead of lifting people out of poverty, President Ruto’s government was pushing more Kenyans into poverty, said Raila Odinga, who also attacked the President on his tax policy.

Sunday, Ruto indicated that all Kenyans, irrespective of their status, must pay taxes adding that there will be no tax waivers for anybody.

“Where people expected a caring regime, they have been rewarded with the most I don’t care government this country has ever known. Now even that little is being taken away. He is pick-pocketing the poor to feed his rich friends,” said Odinga.

“Corruption is written all over the government. The corrupt are having the best time of their lives. They managed to put one of their own as president. For the first time, they own a government,” he added.
