Morocco Hosts UN Regional Counter-Terror Training Session for African Law Enforcement Agents
The UN Office of Counter Terrorism through its Program Office in Rabat for Counter-Terrorism and Training in Africa launched on Monday its 2nd specialized training session on counter-terrorism investigation skills.
Twenty-four law enforcement agents from Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal are taking part in the training to last till Sept.23.
The training is organized with the support of the Governments of Morocco and Australia, in collaboration with the Brazilian Intelligence agency, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the National Police of Spain and several other Moroccan and foreign partner security institutions.
It aims to enhance the specialized technical skills of law enforcement officials to conduct counterterrorism investigations while preventing and countering violent extremism.
This training provides an opportunity to all participants to improve their capacities while sharing experiences, and more importantly, to build a network of regional cooperation in the field of counterterrorism.
The Rabat Program Office and Training Center was established to serve as a much-needed training hub to advance UNOCT’s counter-terrorism capacity-building efforts in Africa, particularly in West Africa and the Sahel.
Since its opening, the Program Office has been developing capacity-building assistance to African Member States in the form of accredited training programs that leverage local, regional, and international expertise to develop and strengthen the technical and specialized skills of law enforcement, judicial and other national security officers from African Member States to investigate and combat terrorism.
