Morocco’s King congratulates Wydad AC on winning its third CAF Champions League Cup
Morocco’s Wydad AC has won the CAF Champions League Cup after beating Egypt’s Al Ahly 2-0 in Monday’s game played at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Shortly after the end of the match, King Mohammed VI congratulated, in a phone call, the club’s head coach Walid Regragui and captain Yahya Jebrane.
The Sovereign asked them to convey his congratulations for this trophy to all the players, staff, fans and components of the club for this feat, which is a source of pride for football fans and all the Moroccan people.
King Mohammed VI also sent a message of congratulation to the club members, stating that he has followed with pride and joy the great achievement of the WAC, which won the African Champions League Cup for the 2021-2022 season, thus adding another title to its record and affirming once again its ability to represent Moroccan football in the best way.
The King expresses, on this happy occasion, his warmest congratulations to all the components of the Wydad Club, including players, coaches, managers, technical and medical staff as well as fans, saying that he is convinced that this so deserved win could not be achieved without the intense efforts made throughout this competition and the spirit of competitiveness and patriotism displayed by the members of the team.
These efforts “have enabled you to gratify your country and your passionate and creative public through this continental title, the third of its kind in the history of the club,” the Sovereign points out in his message.
This win is also a source of pride insofar as it is the second title claimed by Moroccan football at the continental level in less than two weeks, says the King.
Actually, Renaissance Sportive of Berkane (RSB) won on May 21 the Cup of the Confederation of African Football (CAF-2022).
In his message, the King noted that WAC’s victory has filled with joy the Moroccan public, which aspires to more titles, and will undoubtedly give a strong impetus to the Casablanca club, as well as to the rest of the teams in order to increase their efforts and support the promising development that national football is experiencing at all levels.
The team’s victory goals were both scored by Zouheir El Moutaraji at 15,’ and 48.’
The Moroccan club last won the Cup in 2017, 25 years after taking home the title in 1992. It cruised to the final of this sporting event in 2011 and 2019, but failed to snatch the title.
The match, attended by over 40,000 supporters, was also marked by the presence of several renowned figures from the world of football, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
