Israel supports Morocco’s territorial integrity, welcomes Spanish Sahara position- FM
Israeli foreign minister Yair Lapid expressed support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and welcomed Spanish support for the autonomy plan.
This came following a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita who attended a foreign ministers summit bringing together the host Israel, the US, Bahrain and the UAE.
Israel, the US and their Arab allies “Will work together to counter attacks against Bahrain and the UAE, terror attacks against Israel and attempts to weaken Moroccan sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Lapid.
“We are determined to bring prosperity and peace to this region and beyond. In this context, Spain’s statement last week in support of Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Western Sahara, which others have already endorsed, is a positive development,” he said.
The summit focused on strengthening efforts to counter threats to regional peace and security by Iran and its proxies.
After the summit, Antony Blinken is due to hold talks on Tuesday in Rabat with foreign minister Nasser Bourita and later in the day with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed.
