South Korean official upbeat about future of exchanges with Morocco

Visiting South Korean First Deputy Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun said he was upbeat as to the future of exchanges between his country and Morocco.

The remarks were made after the talks he held in Rabat with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

 

The talks that he described as “fruitful” reviewed the friendly relations existing between the two countries.

 

The South Korean official, who is on his first visit to the Kingdom, expressed his great esteem for King Mohammed VI and for his leadership in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic “which we are facing and will work together to overcome”.

 

Choi also indicated that this first trip will be followed by other visits, saying he was optimistic about the future of exchanges between the two countries.

The South Korean Foreign ministry’s statement announcing Choi Jong-kun’s visit had stated that Morocco is known as a key gateway for exports to North America and Europe, as well as a manufacturing hub.

 

Choi’s trip to Morocco is part of an African tour that includes stops in Senegal and Nigeria.

 

The weeklong trip, slated for Aug. 14-21, is destined to bolster South Korea’s cooperation ties with its key partners in Northern and Western Africa and is intended to diversify the country’s diplomacy portfolio by deepening cooperation with the African countries in areas including health, education, infrastructure and manufacturing, the foreign ministry had said.

 

According to the South Korean Foreign Department, talks of Mr. Choi in Morocco and Senegal will focus on ways of expanding bilateral and multilateral exchanges and cooperation, while in Nigeria, maritime security cooperation in the Gulf of Guinea will be discussed among other projects.

 

Seoul is planning to host in December the South Korea-Africa forum.
