Morocco & EU discuss cooperation prospects and strategic partnership

Ways of enhancing further cooperation ties between Morocco and the European Union within the frame of their strategic partnership were at center of a videoconference organized Friday by the Moroccan foreign ministry.

EU’s Neighborhood Commissioner Oliver Varheli took part in this meeting along with a large Moroccan ministerial delegation representing the departments of foreign affairs; economy & finance; agriculture & fisheries; industry & trade; education; and renewable energies.

The debates and presentations stressed the need to adapt EU-Morocco cooperation to the new economic challenges raised by Covid-19 pandemic, which affected the global economy.

The speakers highlighted the convergence of views on future partnership and need to join efforts to speed up economic recovery for a shared growth based on a diversified and efficient cooperation, which was given a strong impetus thanks to the adoption of the Joint Political Declaration of June 27, 2019.

Morocco is pushing for a new model of win-win partnership with the EU, focusing on priority sectors including finance, agriculture, industry, education, energy, sustainable development, technology and TIC.

Morocco is a major partner of the European Union in political, commercial, economic and technical cooperation, and plays a key role in the fight against illegal migration, drugs trafficking and terrorism.
