Burundi: stockbroker Jackon Simbananiye assassinated a week before presidential election

Burundi’s biggest stockbroker, Jackon Simbananiye, better known as Kirahwata, was assassinated less than a week before presidential elections.
Jackon Simbananiye was abducted Wednesday evening as he was coming out of a sauna in Bujumbura and his body, still bearing marks and a rope around his neck, was found Thursday morning, May 14, lying in a small gutter in the Nyakabiga district, near the city center.

Burundians are under shock and hundreds of Internet users took to social networks to express their disgust and anger at what they call “barbaric acts”.
Kirahwata was the most successful Burundian stockbroker and willingly lent large sums of money to his “friends”, sources said. “It may have been one of them who eliminated him,” the sources said.
The police announced that an investigation is already under way and a suspect has been arrested, according to police spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye.
The suspect is the owner of the vehicle used to kidnap the businessman. His license plate was found by witnesses who immediately communicated it on social networks. Witnesses had also mentioned that the kidnappers were dressed in police uniforms.
Many voices point the finger at Burundi’s National Intelligence Service, which has a reputation for its expeditious methods.
