Morocco Joins Africa CDC’s Management Board

Morocco has gained a seat at the governing board of Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during its 6th meeting held Dec.2-3 in Addis Ababa.

This is the first time that the country sits in this African health institution since its return to the African Union in 2017. Morocco will serve for three years in Africa CDC and will be represented by Prof. Abderrahman Maaroufi, Director of the Pasteur Institute.

During his tenure, the Moroccan epidemiology expert will also be the spokesman for the North Africa region at the Advisory and Technical Council of this African body.

Set up in 2017, Africa CDC seeks to improve surveillance, emergency response, and prevention of infectious diseases in the African continent. Its mission includes addressing outbreaks, man-made and natural disasters, and public health events of regional and international concern.

Africa CDC serves as a platform for African Union member States to share knowledge, exchange lessons learnt, build capacity, and provide technical assistance to each other.
