Automotive Industry: Japanese JTEKT Inaugurates Steering Systems Factory in Tangier

Leading Japanese car parts maker, JTEKT, has inaugurated this Wednesday Oct.9 in the Tangier Automative City Zone its new steering systems production factory, worth $22.7 million.

Executive Director of JTEKT Corporation, Hirofumi Matsuoka, said at the inauguration ceremony that this new plant in Tangier is JTEKT’s first industrial site on the African continent.

He expressed the group’s ambition to expand further in order to become the leader in Africa in terms of steering systems production.

The plant uses the latest technologies, he added, noting that the implementation of the PSA Group’s ecosystem in Morocco, JTEKT’s largest customer, has encouraged the Japanese group to locate one of its factories in the Kingdom.

The Tangier-based factory will be able to respond swiftly and adequately to the customer requirements in Morocco.

The JTEKT group plant has created 90 jobs in the automotive industry and spare parts sector in Morocco.

The manufacturing facility in Tangier named “JTEKT AUTOMOTIVE MOROCCO S.A.S.” will respond to the growth expectation of automobile industry in Morocco, the Japanese group had said when it announced plans to set up the factory in June 2017.

Morocco’s proximity to the European market, modern infrastructures, free trade zones, skilled manpower, open economy and stability have all contributed to making Morocco a regional car industry hub attracting investments by automotive giants such as Renault and Peugeot in addition to world class car part manufacturers.
