Peru is planning to open a consulate in Moroccan Saharan city of Dakhla, joining several African, Arab and Latin American countries that have already established diplomatic missions in Moroccan Sahara.
The announcement was made by foreign minister of this South American country Carlos Espá y Garcés Alvear during his meeting held Thursday in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Mr. Carlos Espá y Garcés Alvear expressed his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity & sovereignty over the Sahara and lauded Autonomy plan offered by the Kingdom for the Sahara, describing the plan as a just, realistic and acceptable political solution for all parties.
Peru’s also welcomed UN Security Council resolution 2797 which endorsed the Autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, dealing a hard blow to the Algeria-backed armed separatist group, threatening regional peace and stability.
