The government of Jamaica has joined countries supporting Security Council Resolution 2797 which endorsed the Autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty and described the plan as most feasible solution.
The new position of Jamaica on the Sahara was expressed by Foreign minister of this Caribbean country Mrs Kamina Johnson Smith in a joint communiqué she signed during talks held with her Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita in New York Wednesday on the sidelines of UN General Assembly.
Jamaica has congratulated Morocco for its diplomatic efforts in building international consensus and momentum in favor of the Autonomy Plan, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
Morocco and Jamaica have agreed to continue political consultations to coordinate their positions on issues of common interest on the regional and international scenes.
UN Security Council Resolution 2797 expresses “full support for the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in facilitating and conducting negotiations, taking as a basis Morocco’s Autonomy Plan,” and affirms that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty could constitute a most feasible solution.
