Mali has reiterated steadfast support for Morocco’s Autonomy plan offered for the Sahara under the Kingdom’s sovereignty, saying the plan is the most realistic solution to end the decades-long regional conflict.
The Malian supportive stand was expressed by foreign minister of this West African country Abdoulaye Diop following a meeting he held Wednesday in New York with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The Malian official said his country backs firmly UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which he described as an “important step” toward reaching a definitive solution to the Sahara conflict.
Diop said cooperation between Bamako and Rabat is based on the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries. He lauded the strong economic, historical, commercial and human ties existing between Morocco and Mali.
Last July, the Moroccan-Malian Cooperation Committee met in Bamako and agreed on a roadmap to expand and deepen partnership in all sectors of shared interest.
