Morocco has announced its candidacy for a non-permanent seat at UN Security Council (UNSC) for 2028–2029 term. The announcement was made Tuesday in New York by foreign minister Nasser Bourita at the ongoing 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
This candidacy demonstrates the Kingdom’s determination to contribute to maintaining international peace and security, said Mr. Bourita while delivering Morocco’s statement at the UN General Assembly.
The bid shows the country’s commitment to sustainable development and multilateral action, added the minister, stressing Morocco attachment to solidarity-based international cooperation, adherence to international law and respect of the principles of national sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.
The candidacy also builds on Morocco’s diplomatic achievements, royal leadership and the trust enjoyed by the Kingdom on the international scene as a key and reliable player in global peace, said the minister.
Morocco has previously served as a non-permanent UNSC member during the 1963–1964 and 1992–1993 terms
