Stellantis Morocco has launched a solar-powered charging station at its Motor Village Bouskoura headquarters, developed through the group’s Star*Up intrapreneurship program and designed by a Morocco-based Stellantis engineer, La Vie éco reports. The station offers a fully autonomous, off-grid charging and energy-storage system meant to expand access to clean mobility in areas where charging infrastructure remains limited or nonexistent.
Deployed in partnership with Moroccan renewable energy firm Solar Power, the station is running as a one-year pilot program meant to test the solution under real-world conditions and gather customer feedback to guide its future rollout. Solar Power CEO Imad El Idrissi said the partnership allows the companies to test a genuinely autonomous, off-grid model in the remote and underserved areas of Morocco where it is most relevant, with the pilot’s results expected to directly inform future decisions on where and how to deploy the technology more broadly across the region.
The station combines a photovoltaic canopy, which generates renewable electricity whenever sunlight allows, with an integrated battery storage system built from repurposed Stellantis micromobility batteries, storing surplus solar energy to guarantee charging availability day and night. It includes four AC charging points for electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and micromobility solutions, with EV charging points delivering up to 19 kW, all managed by an intelligent system that optimises energy flows independently of the electrical grid. Requiring no grid connection or authorization, the plug-and-play design allows rapid, flexible deployment across sun-rich regions, isolated logistics platforms and worksites, hospitality venues and rural communities.
Beyond EV and plug-in hybrid charging, the station includes two standard 230V household outlets for micromobility vehicles such as the Fiat TRIS, which can charge from 20 to 80 percent in about four hours using one of the built-in outlets. Through initiatives like Star*Up, which lets employees turn innovative ideas into scalable commercial solutions, Stellantis said it continues promoting a culture of innovation aimed at shaping a safer, cleaner and more affordable future for mobility.
