The Sudanese Army said it had repelled a major attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Jabra Al Sheikh area of North Kordofan State, inflicting heavy casualties and destroying military equipment.
The Army said on Thursday that the RSF assault involved more than 250 combat vehicles and that the attack targeted Jabra Al Sheikh and surrounding villages in the southern part of North Kordofan.
The Army had announced on July 26, 2026, that it had regained control of Bara, Jabra Al Sheikh and Umm Sayala in North Kordofan following fighting with the RSF. The three Kordofan states — North, West and South — have witnessed intense fighting between the army and the RSF since October 25.
Sudan’s war, which began in April 2023 following disagreements over the integration of the RSF into the regular military, has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced about 15 million others, according to UN data, local authorities and academic estimates.
