A vocational training institute in Rabat is set for a major upgrade under a new 19.03 million dirham project designed to help young people learn technical skills and find jobs in Morocco and Germany. The project is led by the Chamber of Crafts of the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region with support from the German-backed Invest for Employment program.
Invest for Employment, known as IFE, is providing 16.02 million dirhams, covering 84 percent of the project’s cost, while the regional Chamber of Crafts is contributing the remaining 3.01 million dirhams, or 16 percent, to modernize the Specialized Institute for Traditional Crafts Arts in Rabat.
The project aims to improve vocational training, update teaching methods and equip students with skills matched to today’s job market, with roughly 310 young people expected to benefit from the program overall, at a pace of around 100 trainees admitted each year, some of whom will be prepared specifically for jobs in Germany.
Physically, the upgrade includes construction of two new buildings covering respectively 400 square meters and 500 square meters. They house new classrooms, practical workshops, offices and technical spaces, alongside three new workshops in fields with growing demand: automotive electrical systems, solar photovoltaic energy, and refrigeration and air conditioning.
The program also covers new industrial machinery, teaching equipment, computers, safety gear and workshop furniture, along with hiring instructors for the new subjects, training existing teachers and updating course content to better match employer needs. Invest for Employment is funded by Germany’s KfW Development Bank on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
