Bulgaria Supports Morocco-proposed Autonomy Plan as Offering Realistic Basis for Reaching Lasting Solution to Sahara Conflict

The Government of Bulgaria has voiced support for the Morocco-proposed Autonomy plan for the Sahara under the Kingdom’s sovereignty, saying the proposed plan offers a realistic basis for reaching a lasting solution to the five decade regional dispute.

The supportive stand was voiced by Bulgarian Foreign minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova during her telephone call Tuesday with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.

Bulgaria has aligned its position on the Sahara with UN Security Council resolution 2797 saying “a genuine Autonomy plan in the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty is the most feasible solution” to end the Sahara conflict.

Bulgaria’s backing represents an additional European support to Morocco’s territorial integrity, consolidating international recognition of the Kingdom’s full sovereignty over its entire Saharan territory.
