Port Sudan handled 15,593 containers, equivalent to 26,019 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), during June 2026, according to the Sea Ports Corporation.
The state-owned operator said the Southern Port received 30 vessels last month, comprising 15 container ships and 15 non-container vessels. Imported cargo accounted for 8,157 containers (13,615 TEUs), representing 52.33% of total traffic, while exports, including loaded and empty containers, reached 7,436 containers (12,404 TEUs), or 47.67% of the total volume.
Officials said the performance reflects ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and sustain foreign trade amid Sudan’s continuing conflict. The port recently welcomed its first ultra-large container ships and resumed transhipment services on June 16, 2026, after a prolonged suspension.
Despite the improvements, authorities noted that further expansion and deeper berths are needed, with the current 1,478-metre berth length and 1.48 million square metres of storage space remaining below international standards.
