King Mohammed VI has offered his warmest congratulations to Abelardo de la Espriella on his election President of Colombia and wished him success in fulfilling the expectations of the Colombian people.
“I should like to take this opportunity to express to you the willingness of the Kingdom of Morocco to spur a new momentum in relations with the Republic of Colombia,” said the Monarch, voicing his readiness to work with the president-elect to open up new perspectives of partnership with Bogota in various areas of common interest.
“I am convinced that our joint efforts will give new impetus to our bilateral cooperation, based on constructive dialogue and mutual respect for our national sovereignty,” underlined the Moroccan Monarch, renewing his best wishes of success to the President-elect of Colombia in leading his country to progress, prosperity, and stability.
The victory of Abelardo de la Espriella, a lawyer and businessman in the presidential election, marks Colombia’s sharp swing back to the right after four years under leftwing president Gustavo Petro, an ally of Algeria and Polisario.
The shift will usher in new foreign policy ending the country’s decades-long leftist agenda and open up new era with Morocco, a strategic ally of the U.S. which endorsed the new president-elect.
