Burundi reiterated on Friday its constant and unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
This position was expressed in a joint statement issued following talks between Burundi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Édouard Bizimana, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
The Burundian top diplomat, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom, also reaffirmed his country’s support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco as the only credible and realistic solution to resolve this regional dispute.
He further expressed full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate and lead negotiations based on the Autonomy Plan.
In the same vein, Burundi welcomed with great satisfaction the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which enshrines the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the basis for a just, lasting and mutually acceptable settlement of this dispute.
