Morocco’s unwavering support for liberation movements in Africa was highlighted during a meeting held Thursday in Palermo, southern Italy, on the occasion of Africa Day celebrations.
Participants in the event, organized at the headquarters of the Sicilian Regional Assembly by the Consulate General of Morocco in Palermo, also praised the Kingdom’s leadership in promoting dialogue and cooperation among the countries and peoples of the continent.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-President of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, Luisa Lantieri, stressed that “Morocco has contributed, and continues to contribute today, to a dream: the dream of a united Africa.”
In this regard, Lantieri emphasized the importance of fostering constant and constructive dialogue, particularly among countries bordering the Mediterranean.
Secretary General of the Permanent Committee for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership of Local and Regional Authorities, Francesco Sammaritano, on his part, noted that post-independence Morocco sided with liberation movements in several African countries and among various African peoples.
During those years, the Kingdom stood very close to these movements and contributed to the emergence of a new pan-African consciousness, he said.
Morocco’s Consul General in Palermo, Maryem Nassif, stated in her address that the Kingdom’s legacy continues to inspire its African policy by placing people at the heart of its action in favor of the continent, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
She noted that this vision is notably based on South-South cooperation, co-development and sustainable human partnerships serving populations.
“A land of convergence and active solidarity, Morocco has succeeded in transcending borders to work for an upright, fraternal and resilient Africa, whose legacy continues to guide our steps,” Mrs. Nassif said, noting that this heritage of mutual assistance remains one of the enduring foundations of the King’s African policy, centered on sustainable and pragmatic partnerships.
