Morocco’s Tarik Sketioui has been named new Head coach of Oman’s National football team looking forward to be among the main the contenders of the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Sketioui, 48, replaces Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, 73, who led Oman in 11 matches, winning three, drawing five and losing three. Under Carlos tenure, Oman exited the Arab Cup in the group stage and failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after losing in the Asian playoff last October.
Armed with his experience and recent successes, Sketioui takes on the challenges of rebuilding Oman Reds and opening a new chapter in the Sultanate’s football history.
Last December, Sketioui led Morocco to the Arab Cup title in Qatar, the Olympic bronze medal in Paris and the African Nations Championship (CHAN) of 2024.
He had played for Moroccan National team in 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. He also had a successful professional football career in Portugal, the Netherlands and France.
He is following in the footsteps of Jamal Sellami, Head coach of Jordan. Sellami has become a legendary figure in Jordanian sports after leading the country to several historic achievements since he took over in 2024 from his countryman Lhoussaine Ammouta (2023–2024). Before moving to the UAE, Ammouta led Jordan to their first-ever Asian Cup final in 2024.
Coach Lamia Boumedi has also been selected to take over Jordan’s women’s national team. Baddou Zaki is still Head coach of Niger. He played a key role in revitalizing this African football national team and inculcating a culture of discipline and hard work.
Morocco’s 2022 World Cup semifinal achievement has captured global attention, becoming an inspirational model.
