Once again, Moroccan expertise stands out on the international stage in the fight against cross-border terrorism. On Friday, January 30, 2026, Austrian authorities arrested a national suspected of links to the ISIS group and of planning imminent attacks in Austria. This major operation was made possible thanks to the direct and decisive security support of Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
Austria’s Ministry of the Interior, through its senior officials, including the State Secretary in charge of protecting the Constitution, Jörg Leichtfried, and the Director General of Public Security, Franz Ruf, officially praised the “crucial and determined” role of Moroccan intelligence services, whose contribution helped neutralize a concrete threat, particularly targeting law enforcement forces in Austria.
The Ministry of the Interior also emphasized, in a statement relayed by the Austrian press, that cooperation between the Austrian Directorate for State Protection and Intelligence (DSN) and the DGST was “particularly decisive for the success of the investigations,” highlighting the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
The investigation revealed the existence of advanced terrorist plots, supported by the seizure of electronic media containing jihadist propaganda and a video pledging allegiance to the Islamic State.
Austrian authorities indicated that the analysis of the seized material is ongoing and that the investigations are still underway.
This fruitful cooperation between Austria’s DSN and the DGST highlights Morocco’s position as a key and reliable strategic partner for global stability. As digital data analysis continues, this new success confirms the effectiveness of Morocco’s proactive approach, which has become an essential bulwark against the expansion of extremist networks in Europe and beyond.
