German Business Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in Dakhla

A high-level delegation of German business leaders recently visited Dakhla to assess economic potential in Morocco’s southern provinces. The mission, organized by the German Federal Association for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (BVMW) with support from Morocco’s Ministry of Investment, marked the first initiative of its kind in Moroccan Sahara.
The delegation toured Dakhla’s port facilities along with several industrial sites and local infrastructure to evaluate the region’s economic, logistical, and energy potentiality. Participating companies included major industrial and technology groups such as Thyssenkrupp Uhde, which specializes in industrial engineering and unit construction, Europipe GmbH for energy infrastructure and pipelines, WILO for water management, and Xlinks Energy in the energy sector.
Additional delegation members represented Maximator GmbH, focused on hydrogen and alternative fuels, Boreal Light GmbH for desalination technology, Ryll Lab GmbH for gas engineering and analysis, and Sonnenkonzept/Solar Allianz in renewable energy. These energy sector companies expressed strong interest in the Moroccan market, particularly the southern provinces where geopolitical successes have been achieved through King Mohammed VI’s forward-looking vision.
The companies examined investment prospects within public-private partnerships, industrial projects, and export platforms. During institutional meetings in Rabat, the delegation met with strategic public entities including ONHYM, the Ministry of Investment, and other institutions involved in energy and investment sectors.
Dr. Rabii El Bacha, BVMW’s energy and climate coordinator, characterized the visit as marking a turning point in bilateral relations. He emphasized the need for public officials to fully understand such initiatives’ strategic importance and continue legislative and regulatory reforms to modernize the energy sector, as called for by the King in his 2017 message accepting the Visionary Award in Energy Efficiency.
Dr. El Bacha highlighted that BVMW’s Rabat office opening signals a new dynamic for strengthening multidimensional cooperation between Morocco and Germany, aligning with the August 2022 Morocco-Germany Joint Declaration’s commitment to developing bilateral economic and commercial relations.
