Senegal has reiterated firm support for the Royal initiative for Atlantic Africa seeking to transform Africa’s Atlantic coast into a zone of shared prosperity, offering Sahel countries access to the Ocean and promoting economic integration, energy security, and regional stability.

The supportive stand was voiced by Speaker of Senegalese National Assembly El Malick Ndiaye during a meeting held Friday in Rabat with Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita.

He said his country’s Parliament is preparing a second session in Dakar devoted to the implementation of this strategic project gathering 28 African countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean, stretching from North to Southern Africa, plus island nations like Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe.

The Royal initiative, launched to promote Africa’s Atlantic coast and enable landlocked African countries have access to port and airport infrastructure, reflects the values of African solidarity and proves that the Continent has taken its destiny into its own hands, underlined M. Ndiaye.

Regarding the Sahara issue, he reiterated Dakar’s steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.

He also congratulated Morocco for the adoption by the UN Security Council of Resolution 2797 endorsing the Moroccan Autonomy plan as the only basis for the resolution of this five-decade regional conflict.

Mr. Ndiaye said his talks with Bourita focused on topics of common interest, including bilateral cooperation prospects in the economic, social, religious, and cultural fields.

M. Ndiaye congratulated Morocco for the impressive 2025 Africa Cup of Nations the Kingdom is currently delivering, saying the world-class organization of this African tournament will be an inspirational model for other countries.
