AFCON 2025: Brahim Diaz named Man of the Morocco–Tanzania Match

Brahim Diaz, forward for the Atlas Lions and scorer of the Morocco–Tanzania match’s only goal, was named Man of the Match in the encounter held Sunday, January 4, in Rabat.

The Confederation of African Football awarded the Man of the Match honor to Brahim Diaz, forward for the Atlas Lions, following the Morocco–Tanzania round-of-16 match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, played on Sunday, January 4, at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The player stood out by scoring the only goal of the match in the 64th minute.

He now sits alone at the top of the tournament’s scoring chart and, above all, breaks the long-standing record held by the late Ahmed Faras since 1967, becoming the first Moroccan player to score in four consecutive AFCON matches.

In one of its earlier statements, CAF had described Diaz as one of the most exciting talents in world football.

The Atlas Lions won the encounter 1–0 in front of a crowd of 63,894 spectators.

In the quarterfinals, Walid Regragui’s men will face the winner of the South Africa–Cameroon match, which is scheduled to kick off Sunday at 8:00 p.m. at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.
