AFCON 2025: Bank Al-Maghrib Issues Commemorative MAD 250 Silver Coin and MAD 100 Banknote

Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), has issued a MAD 250 silver commemorative coin and a MAD 100 commemorative banknote to celebrate the 35th Africa Cup of Nations – AFCON Morocco 2025.
The silver coin features a portrait of King Mohammed VI, with the inscription “Kingdom of Morocco” and Mohammed VI” in Arabic, the Tifinagh script, and the year “2025 – 1447.”
The reverse side displays the inscription “MOROCCO 2025,” an artistic depiction of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, a map of Africa, celebratory fireworks, and numerals in Arabic and standard numerals “250.”
According to technical specifications, the coin is made up of an alloy of 925 silver and 75 copper, weighs 28.28 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 mm, a reeded (textured) edge, and a proof finish.
The MAD 100 commemorative banknote features the King’s portrait, the national coat of arms, a stylized representation of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, a map of Africa, Moroccan arabesque motifs, and a football design.
The reverse showcases the issuing institution’s name in Tifinagh and Latin scripts, an interior view of the sports complex, stylized silhouettes of players, a foot ball adorned with the African map, dynamic stars symbolizing celebration, and a blend of Moroccan and African decorative patterns.
The banknote incorporates advanced security features, including a windowed, color-shifting security thread, recto-verso registration marks, special inks that change color depending on the viewing angle, tactile features for the visually impaired, and microtext.
With legal tender status, the MAD 100 commemorative banknote will be issued in limited quantities and will be circulated with the existing MAD 100 notes.
