Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka represented King Mohammed VI in the seventh African Union-European Union Summit in Luanda, Angola, which opened Monday under the theme “Promoting Peace and Prosperity Through Effective Multilateralism,” with focus on advancing partnership between the two continents.
The two-day gathering agenda addresses critical areas of cooperation, with sessions dedicated to citizens, migration, and mobility issues. These topics hold particular significance for Morocco, as King Mohammed VI was designated African Union Champion on Migration during the organization’s thirtieth summit in January 2018.
The Luanda meeting builds upon the sixth AU-EU Summit held in Brussels on February 17-18, 2022, where both parties committed to strengthening ties based on shared values, mutual interests, and common vision for sustainable growth and prosperity.
This year’s discussions emphasize developing a robust, balanced, and forward-looking partnership framework between Africa and Europe. The summit provides a platform for leaders to address contemporary challenges affecting both continents, including economic development, security cooperation, and regional integration.
The migration theme reflects ongoing concerns about population movements between Africa and Europe, encompassing refugee protection, labor mobility, and diaspora engagement. Morocco’s leadership role in this area stems from its geographic position and experience managing migration flows.
Summit outcomes are expected to shape future cooperation mechanisms and establish concrete action plans for implementation. Participating nations aim to translate commitments into tangible results that benefit citizens across both continents.
