Nador West Med Port: Marsa Maroc joins forces with French CMA-CGM Group to operate west container terminal
Marsa Maroc, Morocco’s major port terminals operator, has joined forces with CMA Terminals, a subsidiary of the French CMA CGM Group, to operate the West Container Terminal at the Port of Nador West Med, a major strategic hub on Morocco’s Mediterranean coast.
The two partners have set up a Joint Venture which will be responsible for the management and development of the terminal. 51% of the VJ capital will be owned by Marsa Maroc and 49% by CMA Terminals.
Scheduled to become operational in 2027, the terminal will offer an annual handling capacity of 1.8 million TEUs and will serve as a major transhipment hub in the Mediterranean, strengthening Morocco’s integration into global maritime trade routes.
Set to become progressively operational from 2027, the terminal will feature 900 linear meters of quay, a draft of 18 meters, and 37.5 hectares of yard area, covering a total surface of 60 hectares. It will ultimately be equipped with eight ship-to-shore cranes (STS) and will have a throughput capacity of up to 1.8 million TEUs per year.
Located near the Strait of Gibraltar, Nador West Med benefits from significant geographic advantages, complementing the terminals already operated by the CMA CGM Group in the Western Mediterranean.
