Libya: UN Mission sets framework for inclusive political dialogue
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has announced the criteria for selecting participants in its upcoming structured dialogue, scheduled to begin next month. In a statement, the mission said the process would prioritise geographical balance and inclusive representation, ensuring participation from women, youth, Civil society, and cultural and institutional groups.
The dialogue will centre on five key themes — governance, economy, security, national reconciliation and human rights — with the aim of giving Libyans from all walks of life a meaningful role in shaping the nation’s future.
According to UNSMIL, the initiative seeks to foster broad-based partnerships with political parties, municipal councils, trade unions and other official entities to lay the groundwork for credible national elections. The mission said the dialogue is designed to promote unity, strengthen governance structures and address the root causes of conflict that have long hindered Libya’s stability and development.
