Morocco-France strengthen military cooperation with “Exercise Chergui 2025”
Moroccan and French armies have launched over the weekend their joint military exercise “Chergui 2025” in southern-eastern desert region of the Kingdom to strengthen further interoperability and consolidate strategic cooperation between the two countries against common challenges.
According to French defense ministry, elements from the 5th regiment of combat helicopters, a platoon of the 1st Regiment of Hunters, a section of the 1st Regiment of Trailleurs and a command module of the 4th Aerocombat Brigade are participating with units of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) in the exercise, taking place near the border with Algeria, which is harboring the Polisario terrorists and jihadists of Al Qaeda branch in the Maghreb.
The exercise, which simulates an aggression against Morocco’s territorial integrity, includes joint planning and coordination and combined ground-air tactical maneuvers. It seeks to enhance interoperability, tactical skills, and joint responses to regional security threats, particularly terrorism in the Sahel region.
Moroccan-French military cooperation is based on a longstanding partnership rooted in historical ties, strategic interests, and mutual defense goals.
The two countries have cooperation agreements in military training, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism. France has supplied Morocco with military hardware, including helicopters and radar systems, and provides technical support for maintenance and upgrades.
