Egypt: Two killed, six injured in gas pipeline explosion in Ismailia

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has confirmed that two workers were killed and six others injured after an explosion at a gas pipeline facility in the Abu Sultan area of Ismailia governorate on Sunday evening.

The blast, which occurred during routine maintenance preparations, was traced to the detachment of a launcher trap from its welded joint. Emergency teams rushed to the site, while the injured were transferred to hospital for treatment.

According to the ministry, the pipeline had already been emptied of natural gas before work commenced, ensuring that gas supplies were unaffected. Authorities extended condolences to the victims’ families and pledged a full investigation into the cause of the accident. The ministry also assured the public that the incident poses no threat to the continuity of gas distribution in the country.
